The Three Little Pigs
Most of us remember the classic children's tale of the wolf trying to blow down the Three Little Pigs houses. Today's houses have to withstand far more than huffing and puffing, and so the University of Western Ontario has built a $6.8 million facility at London International Airport to test houses and smaller buildings. Headed up by Dr. Michael Bartlett of the U.W.O. Engineering School, the project entitled "Three Little Pigs" will permit researchers to simulate and study realistic damage to full-scale houses from wind, snow and rain. It will also be used to assess the factors influencing the ingress of moisture due to wind-driven rain and the development of harmful mould growth under realistic environmental conditions.
To facilitate the testing of these full-scale buildings, U.W.O. has constructed a 13,000 square foot hangar at the Airport in the new Skyway Industrial Park.
